Gearing up for Barriers Stages 2023

The Hatchery is ecstatic announce the annual Barriers Stages Race 2023 registrations are now open!

What is the Barriers Stages?

Basically its a MTB/Trail Camp with a difference. Grab a few buddies and sign them up for a training weekend with a difference. Less than an hour from DBN our route includes a long neutral zone, some lagoon bits, steep, overgrown, and rutted cattle track and the odd bit of district road. Back at base enjoy a well deserved Zululand dumpie and the best chicken prego this side of Maputo and then hop into our ice bath and wood fired hot tubs for some well deserved RNR and some tunes from our DJ!

The 2022 adventure event raised almost R20 000 for conservation that was handed over for the rehabilitation of the Amatikulu Nature Reserve. The honorary officers hope to open the reserve to the public again this year.

What it is: MTB/Trail Camp @ The Hatchery
When and Where: 01 - 03 September 2023.

Entry R1 350 includes: run/ride and entertainment.

Rooms and tents available for the weekend @ the Hatchery (035 004 0016). It's going to be good for good.

What Our Racers Say...

Barriers Stages 2022 fantastic final stage from Kwambonambi to St Lucia. 300km over 3 days from Prince's Grant Coastal Golf Estate to St Lucia.

We rode our MTB’s across the most incredible scenery and rural communities. Friendly people, great weather, tasty food and cold beer. Well done Matthew Myburgh for all the hard work. Much needed funds raised for the Honorary Rangers and the work they doing at the Amatikulu Nature Reserve.

I'm lacking human words to summarize the feels from this weekend.....

Over three days, I ran from Princes Grant to Mtunzini following a self-supported route via GPS navigation (a new skill to me!), traversing areas of coastline and forest that I would never have seen otherwise. Bushwacking, river crossings, swamp plodding, trail running, shell hunting, canoe taxi-ing, chatting, SMILING and just honestly feeling alive in my skin.

The Barriers Barriers Stages 2022 is an event to conserve and consisted of either a MTB ride over 5 stages to end at St Lucia St , or as of this year a run over 3 stages to end at Mtunzini. You can choose to do one, some or all of the stages.

I was joined by various incredible friends, including a surprise 2 day join by my Lover and most favorite Dean Percival , to run all three these pristine sections of coastal trails. The river crossings was a fear I had to face, hunting knife ready (to Dean's horror). I can safely say that we did not encounter any crocodiles, and that the ones we DIDNT see can now go about their business without me knowing about it

I'm thrilled to the bone and ecstatic on a cellular level. Such fun and DEFINITELY recommend! I'll be back for sure!
